The Best Halloween Candy and Booze Pairings for Parents
Halloween requires a lot from us parents; costumes, carving pumpkins, trick or treating, making 100 scary sugar cookies for school parties, pumpkin patches, bribing the kids for cute pictures at the pumpkin patch. It can be a little overwhelming. Plus, Halloween is the beginning of the busy, non-stop holiday season with no rest until the new year. With this in mind, celebrate surviving the scariest night of the year by celebrating with these Halloween candy and booze pairing ideas.
1. Candy Corn + Jameson and Apple Juice Boxes
Candy Corn, that ubiquitous Halloween treat seems to be everywhere this time of year. Pour some Jameson Irish Whisky over ice and dump one of your kids apple juice boxes in there and BOOM you have the perfect pairing for this cavity inducing treat. It's also a great reminder to schedule everyone's teeth cleanings before seeing grandma.
2. Pixie Stixs + Vodka, Grapefruit Juice & La Croix – Garnish with a Dum Dum
Pixie Stixs were originally designed to be a drink mix but the creators quickly realized kids were just sucking them right out of the package. Voila, a classic was born. Start by rimming a martini glass with this sweet treat (think salted rim on a Margarita) add ice, vodka, soda and a splash of Grapefruit. Toss in a Dum Dum as a stirrer if you like.
3. Sour Patch Kids + Margarita
A simple Margarita recipe consist of Tequila, Lime Juice, and Triple Sec. I don't recommend those pre-mixes because the actual recipe is just as easy and way better. Mix it up on the rocks or throw the whole concoction in a blender with a little extra ice. Some people like to add a splash of OJ to sweeten it up. Either way top it off with a few nice, tart Sour Patch Kids. The choice flavor is up to you but keep it consistent, too many varieties will ruin the balance. Cheers wild one, everyone knows the fun moms drink tequila.
4. Caramel Apples + Pumpkin Beer
Doesn't get much more October than that folks. This is a perfect pairing for that Pumpkin Patch you'll inevitably drag the family to. After an itchy hay ride and an indecisive three-year-old who has picked out five different pumpkins you decide your husband is now the designated driver. Treat yourself to this fall pairing.
5. Reese's Peanut Butter Cup + Shot of Bourbon in a Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Pretty straight forward here. On your way home from bobbing for apples, grab a Pumpkin Spiced Latte for this amazing hack. Take a few sips, you'll need to make some room, then top up with bourbon. Go ahead and find that lonely half smooshed Reese's Peanut Butter Cup your little goblin missed in the bottom of their bag. A rare find, these are usually the first ones to go. Reese's cups are great just out of the fridge but absolutely divine when the peanut butter and chocolate start to melt together and that kick of pumpkin spice just brightens the whole thing up. So does the bourbon.
6. Popcorn Balls + Sparkling Wine
These rarely get passed out over stranger's doorways anymore but you can usually encounter them at your Pinterest perfect Mom's Halloween party. You know the one, who's Pinterest project fail rate is considerably lower than yours? Pair this classic poppin' treat with a cold glass of Sparkling Wine. The effervescence of the wine goes well with this sweet, salty, and crunchy confection. #nailedit
7. Sour Apple Jolly Ranchers + Zima
Don't even try and pretend like you didn't try this in high school, sorry Mom. Lucky for us Zima has made a comeback and was released back into the market this past summer. Drop a Sour Apple Jolly Rancher in this 90's Malt Beverage watch it turn ectoplasm green and relive your youth.
8. Tootsie Rolls + Lambrusco
For those of you who don't know what Lambrusco is run out now and grab a bottle. It's a sparkling red wine from Italy. Bubbly, light, it's like a purple wine soda and it's cheap but it's Italian so it's fancy. The bubbles cut right through the hard chewy chocolate for a surprisingly amazing pop.
9. Fireballs + Hard Apple Cider
Fireballs, those spicy cinnamon jawbreakers of yore. They're still around and will be overlooked in the Trick or Treat bag. Pair that fiery cinnamon ball with a cold crisp hard cider and you'll have a lovely, hot and sweet treat.
10. Hershey's Dark Chocolate + Cabernet Blend
This is what we call in the service industry "the chicken." When all else fails on the menu you always have the chicken, it's always a safe bet. Same goes for pairing a Hershey's Dark Chocolate bar with a Cabernet. What's not to like? The bitterness of the chocolate mixed with the silkiness of the Cabernet is the classic pairing for a reason.
